Build of HTML docs failing due to conversion of deviceiobook.tmpl in 8a8a602f and regulator.tmpl in 028f2533 to RST without removing from DOCBOOKS in Makefile, resulting (in the case of deviceiobook) the following error: make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'Documentation/DocBook/deviceiobook.xml', needed by 'Documentation/DocBook/deviceiobook.aux.xml'. 2017-02-27scripts/spelling.txt: add "followings" pattern and fix typo instancesMasahiro Yamada
Fix typos and add the following to the scripts/spelling.txt: followings||following While we are here, add a missing colon in the boilerplate in DT binding documents. The "you SoC" in allwinner,sunxi-pinctrl.txt was fixed as well. I reworded "as the followings:" to "as follows:" for drivers/usb/gadget/udc/renesas_usb3.c. 2017-02-15Add a target to check broken external links in the DocumentationRémy Léone
Documentation shouldn't have broken links. sphinx linkcheck builder scans all documents for external links, tries to open them with urllib2, and writes an overview which ones are broken and redirected to standard output and to output.txt in the output directory. 2017-01-31docs: Convert the regulator docbook to RSTJonathan Corbet
A fairly straightforward conversion to RST; the document is then added to the driver-api manual. Of course, this document has seen no substantive changes since 2008, so chances are it needs work in other areas as well. 2017-01-31docs: Convert the deviceio template to RSTJonathan Corbet
Convert deviceiobook.tmpl to RST and incorporate it into the driver API manual. Like the rest of our documentation, this one could use some work. There's no mention of ioremap() and friends, no mention of io_read*() and friends. But we have nice documentation for all those folks writing new drivers that do port I/O :). The :c:func: notation has been left off of all the read*/write* functions. There's no kerneldoc comments for them anyway, so those links will never be live, and writing a bunch of repetitive "read a byte from I/O memory" comments lacks appeal. 2016-11-29doc: Convert the debugobjects DocBook template to sphinxJonathan Corbet
A couple of the most minor heading tweaks, otherwise no changes to the text itself beyond the mechanical conversion. 2016-09-16Merge branch 'driver-api' into doc/4.9Jonathan Corbet
This short series convers device-drivers.tmpl into the RST format, splits it up, and sets up the result under Documentation/driver-api/. For added fun, I've taken one top-level file (hsi.txt) and folded it into the document as a way of showing the direction I'm thinking I would like things to go. There is plenty more of this sort of work that could be done, to say the least - this is just a beginning! The formatted results can be seen at: http://static.lwn.net/kerneldoc/driver-api/index.html As part of the long-term task to turn Documentation/ into less of a horror movie, I'd like to collect documentation of the driver-specific API here. Arguably gpu/ and the media API stuff should eventually move here, though we can discuss the color of that particular shed some other day. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate comments on the general idea.

Pull documentation updates from Jonathan Corbet: "Some big changes this month, headlined by the addition of a new formatted documentation mechanism based on the Sphinx system. The objectives here are to make it easier to create better-integrated (and more attractive) documents while (eventually) dumping our one-of-a-kind, cobbled-together system for something that is widely used and maintained by others. There's a fair amount of information what's being done, why, and how to use it in: https://lwn.net/Articles/692704/ https://lwn.net/Articles/692705/ Closer to home, Documentation/kernel-documentation.rst describes how it works. For now, the new system exists alongside the old one; you should soon see the GPU documentation converted over in the DRM pull and some significant media conversion work as well. Once all the docs have been moved over and we're convinced that the rough edges (of which are are a few) have been smoothed over, the DocBook-based stuff should go away. Primary credit is to Jani Nikula for doing the heavy lifting to make this stuff actually work; there has also been notable effort from Markus Heiser, Daniel Vetter, and Mauro Carvalho Chehab. Expect a couple of conflicts on the new index.rst file over the course of the merge window; they are trivially resolvable. That file may be a bit of a conflict magnet in the short term, but I don't expect that situation to last for any real length of time. Beyond that, of course, we have the usual collection of tweaks, updates, and typo fixes" * tag 'docs-for-linus' of git://git.lwn.net/linux: (77 commits) doc-rst: kernel-doc: fix handling of address_space tags Revert "doc/sphinx: Enable keep_warnings" doc-rst: kernel-doc directive, fix state machine reporter docs: deprecate kernel-doc-nano-HOWTO.txt doc/sphinx: Enable keep_warnings Documentation: add watermark_scale_factor to the list of vm systcl file kernel-doc: Fix up warning output docs: Get rid of some kernel-documentation warnings doc-rst: add an option to ignore DocBooks when generating docs workqueue: Fix a typo in workqueue.txt Doc: ocfs: Fix typo in filesystems/ocfs2-online-filecheck.txt Documentation/sphinx: skip build if user requested specific DOCBOOKS Documentation: add cleanmediadocs to the documentation targets Add .pyc files to .gitignore Doc: PM: Fix a typo in intel_powerclamp.txt doc-rst: flat-table directive - initial implementation Documentation: add meta-documentation for Sphinx and kernel-doc Documentation: tiny typo fix in usb/gadget_multi.txt Documentation: fix wrong value in md.txt bcache: documentation formatting, edited for clarity, stripe alignment notes ...
