2012-04-20net: Convert all sysctl registrations to register_net_sysctlEric W. Biederman
This results in code with less boiler plate that is a bit easier to read. Additionally stops us from using compatibility code in the sysctl core, hastening the day when the compatibility code can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Acked-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@parallels.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2012-04-20net: Move all of the network sysctls without a namespace into init_net.Eric W. Biederman
This makes it clearer which sysctls are relative to your current network namespace. This makes it a little less error prone by not exposing sysctls for the initial network namespace in other namespaces. This is the same way we handle all of our other network interfaces to userspace and I can't honestly remember why we didn't do this for sysctls right from the start. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2011-09-16IRDA: Fix global type conflicts in net/irda/irsysctl.c v2Andi Kleen
The externs here didn't agree with the declarations in qos.c. Better would be probably to move this into a header, but since it's common practice to have naked externs with sysctls I left it for now. 2009-11-12sysctl net: Remove unused binary sysctl codeEric W. Biederman
Now that sys_sysctl is a compatiblity wrapper around /proc/sys all sysctl strategy routines, and all ctl_name and strategy entries in the sysctl tables are unused, and can be revmoed. In addition neigh_sysctl_register has been modified to no longer take a strategy argument and it's callers have been modified not to pass one. 2009-09-24sysctl: remove "struct file *" argument of ->proc_handlerAlexey Dobriyan
It's unused. It isn't needed -- read or write flag is already passed and sysctl shouldn't care about the rest. It _was_ used in two places at arch/frv for some reason. 2008-11-03net: '&' reduxAlexey Dobriyan
I want to compile out proc_* and sysctl_* handlers totally and stub them to NULL depending on config options, however usage of & will prevent this, since taking adress of NULL pointer will break compilation. So, drop & in front of every ->proc_handler and every ->strategy handler, it was never needed in fact. Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-01-28[IrDA]: LMP discovery timer not started by defaultRoss Burton
By default, LMP sets up a 3 seconds timer for discovery. We don't need it until discovery is set to 1. Signed-off-by: Ross Burton <ross@openedhand.com> Signed-off-by: Samuel Ortiz <samuel@sortiz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[NET]: Simple ctl_table to ctl_path conversions.Pavel Emelyanov
This patch includes many places, that only required replacing the ctl_table-s with appropriate ctl_paths and call register_sysctl_paths(). Nothing special was done with them. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-19Convert files to UTF-8 and some cleanupsJan Engelhardt
* Convert files to UTF-8. * Also correct some people's names (one example is Eißfeldt, which was found in a source file. Given that the author used an ß at all in a source file indicates that the real name has in fact a 'ß' and not an 'ss', which is commonly used as a substitute for 'ß' when limited to 7bit.) * Correct town names (Goettingen -> Göttingen) * Update Eberhard Mönkeberg's address (http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/1/8/313) Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org>
2007-10-18sysctl: properly register the irda binary sysctl numbersEric W. Biederman
Grumble. These numbers should have been in sysctl.h from the beginning if we ever expected anyone to use them. Oh well put them there now so we can find them and make maintenance easier. 2007-07-18[IrDA]: Fix IrDA build failureSamuel Ortiz
When having built-in IrDA, we hit the following error: `irda_sysctl_unregister' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irda_proc_unregister' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irsock_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irttp_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `iriap_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irda_device_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irlap_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o `irlmp_cleanup' referenced in section `.init.text' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o make[1]: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 make: *** [_all] Error 2 This is due to the irda_init fix recently added, where we call __exit routines from an __init one. It is a build failure that I didn't catch because it doesn't show up when building IrDA as a module. My apologies for that. The following patch fixes that failure and is against your net-2.6 tree. I hope it can make it to the merge window, and stable@kernel.org is CCed on this mail. Signed-off-by: Samuel Ortiz <samuel@sortiz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-02-14[PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctlEric W. Biederman
The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented. I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register duplicate sysctl entries. So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future enhancments harder. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
