2012-03-30Merge branch 'kbuild' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mmarek/kbuild Pull kbuild changes from Michal Marek: - Unification of cmd_uimage among archs that use it - make headers_check tries harder before reporting a missing <linux/types.h> include - kbuild portability fix for shells that do not support echo -e - make clean descends into samples/ - setlocalversion grep fix - modpost typo fix - dtc warnings fix * 'kbuild' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mmarek/kbuild: setlocalversion: Use "grep -q" instead of piping output to "read dummy" modpost: fix ALL_INIT_DATA_SECTIONS Kbuild: centralize MKIMAGE and cmd_uimage definitions headers_check: recursively search for linux/types.h inclusion scripts/Kbuild.include: Fix portability problem of "echo -e" scripts: dtc: fix compile warnings kbuild: clean up samples directory kbuild: disable -Wmissing-field-initializers for W=1
2012-03-26Kbuild: centralize MKIMAGE and cmd_uimage definitionsStephen Warren
All ARCHs have the same definition of MKIMAGE. Move it to Makefile.lib to avoid duplication. All ARCHs have similar definitions of cmd_uimage. Place a sufficiently parameterized version in Makefile.lib to avoid duplication. 2012-03-19microblaze: Fix makefile to work with latest toolchainMichal Simek
When building with latest binutils, vmlinux includes some sections which need to be stripped out when building the binary image. Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu>
2012-01-15Kbuild: Use dtc's -d (dependency) optionStephen Warren
This hooks dtc into Kbuild's dependency system. Thus, for example, "make dtbs" will rebuild tegra-harmony.dtb if only tegra20.dtsi has changed yet tegra-harmony.dts has not. The previous lack of this feature recently caused me to have very confusing "git bisect" results. For ARM, it's obvious what to add to $(targets). I'm not familiar enough with other architectures to know what to add there. Powerpc appears to already add various .dtb files into $(targets), but the other archs may need something added to $(targets) to work. 2010-12-23microblaze/of: Use generic rule to build dtb'sDirk Brandewie
Modify arch/powerpc/boot/Makefile to use dtc command in scripts/Makefile.lib Signed-off-by: Dirk Brandewie <dirk.brandewie@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca>
2010-08-04microblaze: Do not use _start in vmlinuxMichal Simek
_start symbol stores physical address where kernel is. Gdb uses this symbol for their purpose that's why we have to rename it. Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu>

Remove spaces and use tabs instead. Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu>
2010-04-01microblaze: Makefile cleanupsArun Bhanu
If CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE is set, "scripts/gen_initramfs_list.sh" checks if the cpio image exists. Remove the duplicate check from the Makefile. Remove the "clean-kernel" variable which is unused in the Makefile and is not used by the Kbuild. Signed-off-by: Arun Bhanu <arun@bhanu.net> Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu>
2010-04-01microblaze: Fix Makefile to delete build generated filesArun Bhanu
'make clean' does not to delete the following build generated file: arch/microblaze/boot/linux.bin.ub 'make mrproper' does not to delete the following build generated files: arch/microblaze/boot/simpleImage.* Fix the Makefile to delete these build generated files. See [1] for a discussion on why simpleImage.* files are deleted with 'make mrproper' and not with 'make clean'. 2009-12-14microblaze: support U-BOOT image formatMichal Simek
Two version are generated. linux.bin.ub which is created from linux.bin file and simpleImage.<dts>.ub which is created from stripped simpleImage.<dts> file Load address and entry point is for microblaze first instruction which is CONFIG_KERNEL_BASE_ADDR variable. There is possible for simpleImage format parse _start symbol too. simpleImage.<dts> is still stripped elf file I cleared simpleImage.<dts>.unstrip file because there are so big. 2009-09-24microblaze: Support simpleImage.dts make targetMichal Simek
Instead of remembering to specify DTB= on the make commandline, this commit allows the much friendlier make simpleImage.<dts> where <dts>.dts is expected to be found in arch/microblaze/boot/dts/ The resulting vmlinux, with the compiled DTS linked in, will be copied to boot/simpleImage.<dts> This mirrors the same functionality as on PowerPC, albeit achieving it in a slightly different way. + strip simpleImage file The size of output file is very similar to linux.bin. vmlinux - full elf without fdt blob simpleImage.<dtb name>.unstrip - full elf with fdt blob simpleImage.<dtb name> - stripped elf with fdt blob Add symlink to generic system.dts in platform folder Signed-off-by: John Williams <john.williams@petalogix.com> Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu>
